According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Watford over the proposed transfer of Ismaila Sarr. The fee the Hornets are set to receive for the services of the 24-year-old will amount to more than £25 million, with add-ons to come on top of that.
Watford played a goalless draw against Preston North End in the Championship on Saturday at Deepdale, and Sarr was left out of the squad by manager Rob Edwards.
The talented winger was frequently linked with top clubs in England and elsewhere in the past, but as none of those proposed moves materialized, he is now set to return to the Premier League by joining the ranks of Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa.
Since arriving to the Vicarage from Stade Rennais in 2019, Sarr scored 25 goals and produced 19 assists in 95 matches in all competitions for Watford. He has 47 caps and 10 goals as a Senegal international to his name. Earlier this year, he played a part in his country’s successful African Cup of Nations campaign, adding the prestigious trophy to the French Cup he won with Stade Rennais in 2018/19.
