Aston Villa close in on Watkins

According to a recent report from Sky Sports News, Aston Villa are close to agreeing a deal that will see them sign Brentford forward Ollie Watkins.

The 24-year-old made quite the splash during the Bees’ push for promotion last season, to the point where Premier League clubs are finally starting to take notice of his abilities. Still, while he may be on quite the run of form, many are surprised that the reported fee is believed to be £28 million with a potential for £5 million add-ons.

Brentford did want at least £25 million if they were going to agree to a sale this summer, and somewhat shockingly, Villa are willing to stump up that kind of cash.

It comes after they failed to convince Callum Wilson to join them with the former Bournemouth man instead opting to head up north and join Newcastle United.

Now, the question is whether or not Villa can get this one over the finish line.
