Aston Villa are the latest club to have joined the race for Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud, L’Equipe has revealed.
The 25-year-old striker is one of the most sought-after players in Europe at the moment, with sides like Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Napoli all keen on the France international.
French daily L’Equipe claims that Aston Villa are also showing interest in the prolific striker and they even had the played scouted last night as Montpellier were beaten by Nancy.
Aston Villa scouts used the opportunity to check on Montpellier defender Benjamin Stambouli.
Olivier Giroud recently revealed that he was interested in leaving Montpellier for a bigger club, whereas MHSC president Louis Nicollin also confessed that the club might not be able to prevent the player from leaving at the end of the season.
The highly rated forward has scored 17 goals in 25 Ligue 1 games this term, while he also scored on his debut for France national team.
