Aston Villa are reportedly lining up a £6 million transfer move for Chelsea’s troubled midfielder Steve Sidwell according to website football365.com.
Martin O’Neill has identified Sidwell as one of his main transfer targets for this summer, most likely due to the likely sale of captain Gareth Barry, with O’Neill seeing Sidwell as an ideal replacement.
A number of clubs including Everton, Newcastle and West Ham are said to be interested in the midfielder after Sidwell only managed 15 appearances in his first season at Chelsea and any new manager is unlikely to give the former Reading man consistent first-team football.
Despite the fact that Sidwell only managed 15 games and that he joined Chelsea on a free transfer, the Premier League runners up are looking to only accept offers over £5 million for the midfielder and it is this price-tag that has already put off some potential buyers.
Villa are continually being linked with midfielders after it seems increasingly likely that captain Gareth Barry will leave.
