Aston Villa are interested in appointing former Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery as their new manager, according to Football Insider. Steven Gerrard is the manager of Villa at the moment, but the Premier League club’s chiefs are considering their options.
The report has claimed that although Gerrard’s position at Villa is not under immediate threat, the club’s US owners, Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens, are open to sacking the Liverpool legend if results do not improve significantly before the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar start in mid-November. Villa are 14th in the Premier League table at the moment with seven points from seven matches, just a point above the relegation zone.
Emery is in charge of Spanish club Villarreal at the moment. The former Sevilla boss is reportedly open to speaking to Villa and is aware of their interest in him.
