Aston Villa make double swoop on deadline day

Aston Villa have signed striker Christian Benteke from Genk and midfielder Ashley Westwood from Crewe on transfer deadline day.

Earlier yesterday the Villans completed the signing of striker Jordan Bowery from Chesterfield.

Belgian striker Benteke has signed a four-year deal after arriving from Genk and is expected to offer solution to team’s attacking problems.

The 21-year-old is a powerful forward who has scored 19 goals in 37 league games for the Belgian side, while netting once in 5 national team caps.

The Congolese-born striker also bagged 19 goals in 37 appearances for Belgium youth sides.

Midfielder Ashley Westwood has also signed a four-year deal at Villa Park after completing his move from Crewe and he is seen as the one for the future.

The 22-year-old has spent his entire career with the Railwaymen, making 131 league appearances and scoring 14 goals in the process.

It remains to be seen how the player will adapt to the Premiership after playing his football in League Two just one year ago.
