Aston Villa have opened talks with Jack Grealish over a new contract, according to Sky Sports. Meanwhile, Manchester City are preparing an offer of £100 million for his services.
There has been a lot of talk about the Villa captain lately, with many in England critical of national team boss Gareth Southgate not starting him in the first two matches of the ongoing European Championship. Southgate succumbed in the end, and the 25-year-old attacking midfielder was named in the starting XI of their final group game, helping them beat the Czech Republic by 1-0.
Manchester City are working hard on rebuilding their attacking line, following the departure of Sergio Aguero. They’ve already had a £100m bid refused for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane and they’re expected to continue pushing for that deal as well.
However, Villa are still planning on building a team around Grealish. They’ve completed the signings of Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City and Ashley Young from Inter Milan, in the hope of the newcomers playing alongside him in 2021-22.
