According to multiple sources, Arsenal have had an official offer for the services of striker Ollie Watkins turned down by Aston Villa.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has mostly used Kai Havertz as the man leading the attacking line from a ‘false nine’ role, and with Gabriel Jesus now ruled out for the season with an ACL injury, he has practically no other option in the position. Even before Jesus suffered his injury, Arsenal were reportedly on the lookout for a classic striker, but the matter has obviously become urgent. Therefore, they are expected to return to the negotiating table with an improved offer soon, having been told that £60 million is not enough to sign Watkins.
Watkins, 29, joined Aston Villa from Brentford in 202o and has been a vital part of the team that rose from the lower regions of the Premier League table to playing in the Champions League this season. His contract at Villa Park runs until 2028, which puts the Birmingham club in a strong position to demand a high fee, or even refuse to sell at all.
