Aston Villa sign Gueye; Newcastle closing on Mitrovic

Aston Villa have completed the signing of midfielder Idrissa Gueye from French Ligue 1 side Lille OSC for an undisclosed fee.

Aston Villa have completed the signing of midfielder Idrissa Gueye from French Ligue 1 side Lille OSC for an undisclosed fee.

The Senegal international, 25, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Villa Park.

“I’m really pleased to have brought Idrissa on board,” Villa manager Tim Sherwood told the club’s official website.

“He’s been one of the best young midfielders in France for the last few seasons and there were a lot of teams trying to sign him this summer.

“I believe we are signing a player who is hungry to succeed, is entering what should be his best years and is perfectly suited to the Premier League.”

Gueye tallied four goals and two assists in 32 league appearances for Lille last season.

Newcastle closing on Mitrovic

R.S.C. Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is on the verge of completing a move to English Premier League side Newcastle United, according to Sky Sports.

The Serbia international, who joined Anderlecht from Partizan Belgrade in 2013, impressed while netting 20 goals in 37 Jupiler Pro League appearances last term.

Mitrovic added two goals, against Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, in five UEFA Champions League matches in 2014/15.

Meanwhile, in other news, Newcastle are also close to signing Holland international midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, a reported summer target for Manchester United, from PSV Eindhoven.

Van Ginkel joins Stoke on loan

Stoke City have completed the signing of Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel on a season-long deal.

The Holland international, who joined Chelsea from Dutch Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem in the summer of 2013, spent last season on loan at AC Milan, where he tallied one goal and one assist in 17 Italian Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri.

Van Ginkel, who is contracted to Stamford Bridge until 30 June 2018, becomes the Potters’ fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Jakob Haugaard (FC Midtjylland), Joselu (Hannover 96) and Phillip Wollscheid (Bayer Leverkusen).

“Marco is the kind of player we have been looking to bring to the club,” Stoke boss Mark Hughes told the club’s official website.

“He will bring great energy to the side and is capable of scoring goals from midfield, as he showed during his time with Vitesse.

“I’m looking forward to him linking up with the squad in Singapore and getting the chance to work with him on the training ground and see him in action in the Barclays Asia Trophy.”

Stoke City are best-priced at 6/5 to secure a top-10 finish in the English Premier League next season.
