Sky Sport has learned that Aston Villa are set to complete the signing of Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Gueye from Lille.
The 25-year-old recently suggested he was ready to leave les Dogues for greener pastures this summer, and it appears English Premier League will be his next destination.
Namely, Aston Villa have had a £9 million proposal accepted by the Ligue 1 side, meaning Gueye will become their record signing.
The highly rated midfielder will undergo a medical during the day, while his agents will negotiate personal terms for their client.
Ligue 1 giants Marseille were believed to be keen on the player’s signature as well, but they are unlikely to match the offer submitted by Aston Villa.
Idrissa Gueye has spent his entire career up to date at Stade Lille Metropole, making a total of 134 league appearances and scoring 5 goals. He has been capped 13 times by Senegal, recently featuring at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
