Italy international defender Davide Astori claims he was unconcerned by the transfer talk during the summer transfer window.
The Cagliari stopper has become one of the hottest commodities in Italian Serie A, having been constantly putting in impressive displays for Isolani.
As a result, he was linked with a number of country’s top sides in the summer, but eventually remained with his current employers.
In spite of the speculations, the 26-year-old is adamant he never expressed his desire to leave Cagliari.
“There was never the slightest chance I’d leave Cagliari,” Astori told Radio Deejay.
“That is why my summer was perfectly relaxed, in sync with the decisions made by the directors. Am I pushing for a contract renewal? No, I’m very happy with the deal I have now.”
Davide Astori came through the youth ranks at Milan, but moved to Cagliari in 2008 without making a single league appearance for the Rossoneri.
He has since featured in 140 Serie a matches for Isolani, scoring 3 goals in the process, and is widely regarded as one of the best central defenders in the league.
Astori has so far earned 5 Italy caps and scored his first goal for the national team in the 2-2 draw with Uruguay at the 2013 Confederations Cup.
