Looking to book their spot in the quarter-final of this year’s Coppa Italia, a resurging Atalanta will make the trip to the Stadio Artemio Franchi early on Wednesday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Fironetina may have managed to snatch the most dramatic of late victories off of fellow strugglers SPAL over the weekend, it doesn’t cover what has been a worrying run of form for new boss Giuseppe Iachini. Only just managing to extend their Serie A status last season, the Purples appear to have slumped back to their old ways. Winning just one of their last nine matchups against top-flight opposition, a run that stems back to the end of October, Fironetina could still be reeling from their 4-1 hammering against Roma at the Stadio Artemio Franchi last month. Even more worrying for the one-time Udinese manager, Wednesday’s hosts have recorded just a sole victory on home soil since the 6th of October.

As for the visitors, putting in another rugged display and leaving title contenders Inter Milan with a point over the weekend, Atalanta have really turned a corner after a worrying start to the new campaign. With a Champions League knockout tie on the horizon, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have forced a way back into the top-four and will also still be boosted by their stellar back-to-back 5-0 wins over AC Milan and Parma last month. In fact, tasting defeat across any format just once since the 23rd of November and also unbeaten in each of their previous four meetings with Fiorentina, we’re backing a free-scoring Atalanta to come out on top in Firenze.
