Competition: Serie A
Market: Atalanta win
Odds: 4/6 @ 888sport
Hoping to get their campaign off to a flying start on Saturday afternoon, Atalanta will make the trip to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
Starting with the hosts, opening up the new Serie A campaign with a 1-0 defeat away at Torino last weekend, it is no surprise to many in Italy that Torino could be destined for another relegation scrap this time around. Managing to hold onto their top-flight status after returning from the enforced break, the Bulls only continued to show some rather glaring issues over the summer and the mood in Marco Giampaolo’s camp still remains fragile. Limping over the finish line last season after failing to win any of their final five Serie A contests on the bounce, Il Toro were also last seen at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino back in July getting hit with a dramatic 3-2 defeat against Roma. Now in the midst of an extended blip that has seen them record just a pair of victories over their last 13 contests continuing on from the summer, Torino could be in for another overwhelming test this weekend.
As for the visitors, while Atalanta might have been disappointed to have missed out on a silver medal finish over the summer, La Dea shocked many with what was a record-breaking campaign last season. Making it to the quarter-finals of this year’s Champions League and securing themselves another spot in Europe’s premier tournament, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men will be looking to lay down an early marker as they make their Serie A return this weekend. Losing just one of their final 18 top-flight appearances last season and with a real reputation for their stunning displays in the final third, Atalanta should also be boosted by their most recent meeting against Saturday’s hosts. When the two sides last faced off at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino back in January, the Italian high-flyers picked up what was a stunning 7-0 romp on the road.
