Athletic Bilbao are in talks with Osasuna over the signing of talented midfielder Mikel Merino, Marca has revealed.
Having largely struggled to cope with the busy schedule, los Leones aim to add more bodies to the squad and they are hot on the trail of the left-footed midfielder.
The two clubs have already held initial talks and everything suggests the 18-year-old will be moving to San Mames in January.
Athletic have signed Osasuna’s hottest prospects on a number of occasions in the past, which has been frowned upon in Pamplona, but the reality is los Leones don’t have such a big pool to choose from seeing as how they are only signing players of Basque origin.
Their latest target is playing his first ever professional season, but has so far done well to start seven matches in Segunda, while making another two substitute appearances.
And with Osasuna going through financial difficulty, they won’t be able to reject any serious offer from Athletic.
