El Correo is reporting that La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao are ready to offer Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino an escape route from Borussia Dortmund.
The talented footballer only joined the Millionaires in the summer as he was purchased from Osasuna, but he has since failed to prove his worth in Germany.
After making just one appearance for the club, Merino could be leaving Signal-Iduna Park as early as January.
Latest reports claim that Athletic Bilbao want to see the 20-year-old back in La Liga, as he is one of just a handful of quality players of Basque origin who could be available for sale in January.
Mikel Merino has clearly found it hard to make the step up from second division football to the biggest stage, and maybe a return to Spain would help kick-start his career.
His suitors Athletic revived their Champions League ambitions with a narrow win over Villarreal and they can be backed at 3/1 to achieve a top 4 finish.
