Athletic Bilbao have announced on their official website that midfielder Pablo Orbaiz is on the verge of completing his move to Rubin Kazan.
The 33-year-old was farmed out on loan to Olympiakos last summer after new boss Marcelo Bielsa deemed the player surplus to requirements.
The player has now returned to San Mames, but he is set to leave the club again in search of first team football.
The La Liga side have confirmed the player is set to finalize his move to Rubin Kazan.
“Pablo Orbaiz, Athletic Club player, will travel to Kazan to complete his move to Rubin Kazan,” the official statement read.
“Athletic Club, at the request of the player, has given him permission to be absent from training, and if all goes as planned, he will sign a contract with the Russian team.”
The holding midfielder has one year left on his deal at San Mames, meaning that he will be available at a cut-back price.
Pablo Orbaiz has spent his entire career at Athletic Bilbao and has scored 10 goals in 263 La Liga games for the Basque side.
He will be welcomed by compatriots Ivan Marcano and Cesar Navas in Kazan, who now form a centre-back pairing at Rubin.
