Competition: MLS
Market: Atlanta United win and both teams to score
Odds: 5/2 @ Bet 365
Tipped by many to win the Eastern Conference outright, Gerardo Martino’s free-scoring Atlanta side will travel to Washington to face off against Wayne Rooney’s DC United side on Monday.
Starting with Monday’s hosts, after moving to their new 20,000 seater Audi Field stadium, Ben Olsen’s DC side have enjoyed a mid-season push for the playoffs. With latest marque signing Wayne Rooney already grabbing three goals and three assists since making the move from Goodison Park, DC were enjoying a five-match unbeaten run. However, coming off the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to Philadelphia Union last week, the hosts have now recorded just one clean sheet in their last 20 matches in all competitions, a run stemming back to the middle of April.
As for Gerardo Martino’s side, while they may sit a point adrift of the Red Bulls at the top of the East, Atlanta have enjoyed a stellar campaign. Coming off the back of a 2-1 win away at Orlando, Atlanta have now won four of their last five and have scored 13 in their last five. Unsurprisingly, one man to watch for the visitors is MLS’ leading goalscorer and record-breaking striker Josef Martinez. Still with plenty of time to go, the 25-year-old has already broken the leagues’ goalscoring record and now has 28 for the season, 12 more than second place. While they haven’t kept a clean sheet since July, Atlanta have more than enough fire power in the final third.
