Atletico Madrid have told Chelsea to forget about signing Diego Costa, according to the Telegraph.
The Premier League leaders have strongly been linked with a move for the 25 year old as manager Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his misfiring attack.
His three current first choice strikers – Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba have managed just eleven league goals between them so far – one less that top scorer Eden Hazard.
Atleti currently have Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois playing for them on loan, and there had been talk of a swap with Costa to make the Belgium international goalkeeper’s move permanent.
However Enrique Cerezo, president of the La Liga club, has insisted that they do not want to part with their star striker, either for a hefty fee or as a makeweight in a deal for another player.
Costa has twenty-one league goals this season, just one behind the division’s top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo.
