Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement over general terms for a three-year contract with Edinson Cavani of Paris Saint-Germain, according to Sky Italia.
The Uruguay international has constantly struggled to impose himself as the main attacking outlet for the Ligue 1 champions, first due to the presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and then Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. The club acquired the services of former Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi in the summer, albeit on loan, and the Argentinian has often kept Cavani out of the starting XI under head coach Thomas Tuchel.
Cavani’s contract with PSG expires at the end of the season and all negotiations over a new one have apparently been terminated. Atletico would be keen to get the move done in January, but they still haven’t agreed a fee with PSG, and should they fail to do so, the 32-year-old striker is set to move to the Wanda Metropolitano next summer for free.
