La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Atletico Madrid did submit an official proposal for Napoli star Jose Callejon this summer.
Los Colchoneros were credited with an interest in the former Real Madrid forward, but there was no way of knowing whether the reports were actually true.
Nevertheless, La Gazzetta dello Sport has learned that Atletico even made an official bid for the player’s services worth €22 million.
The proposal was swiftly rejected given that Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis had placed a €30 million valuation on the 27-year-old.
Jose Callejon has managed to kick start his career since joining the Azzurri, having scored impressive 19 goals in 43 Serie A appearances.
He has developed into a key player in Rafael Benitez’s squad in the process, but failed to play his way into the first team plans of Spain boss Vicente Del Bosque, with the winger yet to be handed his national team debut.
