Atletico bump up Griezmann’s release clause

Atletico Madrid have increased the release clause in Antoine Griezmann’s contract, Marca has learned.

The French forward signed a five-year deal with the club last summer that contained a €65 million buy-out clause, but the club chiefs saw the need to further increase the figure after the 24-year-old enjoyed a marvellous debut season.

As a result, Griezmann has now signed a one-year extension with Atletico Madrid, while his release clause has been bumped up to €80 million, which is now the highest in club’s history.

The player himself had no problem signing a new deal with the club considering that he is perfectly happy at Vicente Calderon at the moment.

Antoine Griezmann was one of club’s star performers last season, scoring impressive 22 goals in 37 La Liga outings.

Atletico Madrid will attempt to mount a serious title challenge in the league this term, and they are 16/1 shot to repeat the success from 2014.
