Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola has suggested that Atletico Madrid could launch a fresh assault on Argentine winger Nicolas Gaitan.
It is no secret that the 27-year-old is one of the first names on Diego Simeone’s wish list, but los Colchoneros have failed to lure the highly rated footballer to Vicente Calderon in the past.
However, with Atletico now banned from registering new players in next two transfer windows, the La Liga side are widely expected to make a move on Gaitan by the end of the month.
The Argentina international recently signed a new deal with the club and now has a €45 million release clause in his contract.
And while Benfica wouldn’t mind cashing in on his services, they reportedly want at least €35 million for their prized asset.
His suitors Atletico Madrid lead the chase in Spanish La Liga and are available at 9/1 to stay there come end of the season.
