La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are believed to be readying a summer bid for Sporting CP hotshot William Carvalho, Cadena Cope can reveal.
Los Colchoneros are currently banned from signing new players, but as soon as the suspension is lifted, they plan to make a move on the Portugal international.
With Tiago Mendes widely expected to leave at the end of the season, Atletico hope they can agree a deal with Sporting CP to make William Carvalho his long-term replacement.
The 24-year-old has been on the radar of top European clubs for quite some time, and the Lions reportedly rejected a big money bid from West Bromwich earlier this month.
William Carvalho has been one of Sporting CP’s star performers ever since he returned from the loan spell at Cercle Brugge, going on to make 104 Primeira Liga outings and scoring 7 goals.
The midfielder had an important role to play as Portugal went on to claim the Euro 2016 trophy, starting five matches at the tournament finals.
