Atletico Madrid have opened negotiations with Ajax over Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld, the player’s agent has revealed.
The highly rated defender recently revealed that Spartak Moscow have submitted an official offer, but long-term admirers Tottenham and Norwich appear to have puled out of the chase.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid have stepped up their efforts to sign the Belgian international and are currently trying to reach an agreement with Ajax over a transfer fee.
“It is true that Atletico are interested, but that applies to several other clubs as well,” agent Soren Lerby confessed to Voetbal International.
Toby Alderweireld has less than a year left on his deal at Amsterdam Arena, with Ajax looking to cash in on him by the end of the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to English Premier League, but he has rejected a move to Norwich earlier this summer.
Alderweireld is hoping to join a top European club, but chances are he will be interested in an offer from Vicente Calderon.
