Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt has been linked with practically every top club around Europe in the last several months, and the circle still seems to be growing. Juventus, Bayern Munich and Manchester City have been mentioned, while the player himself recently spoke about his partnership with Virgil van Dijk in the Dutch national side and refused to rule out joining him at Anfield. Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has also had his say and confirmed his club’s interest in the young defender.
Now, according to Marca, Atletico Madrid have added themselves to that list.
With Diego Godin likely to join Inter Milan in the summer and Lucas Hernandez perhaps on his way to Munich, the Rojiblancos are putting in an effort to maintain a decent back line. They’ve offered Juanfran a new deal, and the potential addition of arguably the most coveted young defender in the world would certainly go a long way on that road.
