Schalke midfielder Max Meyer is out of contract this summer, and it’s highly unlikely a deal will be struck to extend it. Now, as Sky Sports claim quoting their own sources in Germany, Atletico Madrid have joined Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for his signature.
Extremely pacey and boasting fine skills on the ball, the 22-year-old occasional German international adds a lot of quality to his team. It is reasonable to believe it would be the case wherever he goes, whether it’s Atletico Madrid, the Gunners or Spurs. Consistency in performance levels is something that he should be looking to improve on, but at his age there’s plenty of time.
Sky Sports claim Atletico scouts attended the game between Schalke and Hertha Berlin last weekend, in order to observe their target more closely as they already plan a team-rebuild for next season. They should however be wary of a possible swoop for the player by Barcelona, according to Sky.
