Spanish programme Punto Pelota understands that Atletico Madrid have moved to the pole position to sign Barcelona forward David Villa.
Los Colchoneros have looked at a number of players as they search for successor to Radamel Falcao, and they seem to have singled out the Spain international as their number one target.
Tottenham and Arsenal are also showing interest in Villa, but it appears Atletico have the advantage at the moment.
While the Gunners’ proposal has been deemed insufficient, Spurs will not be playing Champions League football next season, which is why the striker is likely to opt for Atletico.
David Villa, who has just one year left on his deal at Camp Nou, has suggested that he will make a decision on his future after the Confederations Cup.
The 31-year-old, who arrived at Barcelona from Valencia three years back, has clocked up 77 La Liga appearances for the Catalans, scoring 33 goals.
