Spanish daily AS understands that Atletico Madrid are pondering a summer move for Barcelona star David Villa.
Los Colchoneros are aware they might not be able to hold on to star striker Radamel Falcao and are forced to search for his replacement.
According to AS, the La Liga giants have contacted representatives of David Villa with a view of making a summer bid for the player’s services.
Atletico officials see Villa as a cheaper alternative to Edin Dzeko, who is also a potential target.
Villa, 31, is almost certainly set to leave Camp Nou at the end of the season, given that he is very unhappy by the lack of playing time.
With his contract due to expire in June 2013, the Spain international will be available at a cut-back fee next summer.
Arsenal remain very interested in signing the experienced striker, but Atletico officials hope Villa will ultimately opt to remain in Spain and sign for the Vicente Calderon outfit.
