Sampdoria star Luis Muriel looks set to leave the Serie A side this summer with AS Roma and Atletico Madrid locked in the battle for the Colombian striker.
Premium Sport has reported that La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are in advanced negotiations with the 26-year-old Sampdoria forward for a January deal. The Spanish side are forbidden from signing and registering new players due to their ongoing transfer ban but are free to negotiate deals.
Muriel is no stranger to Spanish football, but his brief loan spells at Granada were not that successful as Muriel failed to make a name for himself during his Spain stints. It was at Udinese, Lecce and Sampdoria respectively, that Muriel finally managed to prove his worth.
The Colombian striker has netted 12 goals and managed 9 assists for the Stadio Luigi Ferraris outfit this season and AS Roma have also expressed their interest in signing the Sampdoria striker.
New sporting director Monchi has rolled up his sleeves and is trying to build a competitive squad for next season and Luis Muriel has been aimed as one of the top summer transfer targets.
Giallorossi could be holding an upper hand over Atletico Madrid as they are able to provide the Colombian with Champions League football straight away and not in six months’ time.
