Spanish daily newspaper Marca understands that Atletico Madrid are on the verge of signing Croatian full-back Sime Vrsaljko from Sassuolo.
Los Colchoneros want the Croatia international to challenge Juanfran for a starting berth and they are close to reaching an agreement with the Neroverdi.
According to Marca, Vrsaljko is happy to continue his career in Spanish La Liga despite interest from top Italian sides, so everything suggests he will soon be moving to Vicente Calderon.
The 24-year-old has shown a great deal of potential since leaving Dinamo Zagreb for Genoa, and he has spent last two years at Sassuolo.
Capable of operating on either flank, Vrsaljko is a modern day full-back who already has plenty of first team experience and he was recently linked with a move to Napoli.
However, it would appear as though Atletico Madrid have moved to the front of the queue for his signature.
