Premier League giants Arsenal are probably the club who have been in the news most frequently in the lead up to the January transfer window, and that is principally down to two men in particular. Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez’s departure from the North London club looks almost certain, but midfielder Mesut Ozil’s future has much more clouded until this week.
Atletico Madrid could be the club to rescue the Germany international from Arsenal’s clutches, according to the Express, but only if their own talented midfielder Saul Niguez makes the switch to Manchester United. The Spaniard’s departure would leave a gaping hole in Diego Simeone’s midfield, which could be Ozil’s way out of Arsenal.
Interestingly the German midfielder previously played 159 games for Atleti’s city rivals Real, before his move to North London, but that doesn’t seem to have dissuaded Simeone. Ozil is undoubtedly a hugely talented player and is one of the best passers of the ball in world football.
The midfielder could really reinvigorate an Atletico Madrid side that often fails to create enough chances, but Simeone will face some stiff competition from Manchester United in the race to secure Ozil’s signature.
