According to a recent report over in France, Atletico Madrid are close to agreeing a pre-contract deal with Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan forward is currently with Paris Saint-Germain, but his deal is set to expire at the end of the current season. As a result he will be free to agree terms with another club during the January transfer window, before actually making the move next summer.
Cavani could wind up just agreeing to leave Atletico in January instead of waiting a few more months, but the belief is that the Spanish side are more interested in the possibility of signing him for free.
If they’re able to pull it off then it will undoubtedly mark a huge step in the right direction for Atletico, who have spent the last few years attempting to get back to the kinds of heights that they once set for themselves during their most recent ‘golden era’.
