Atletico Madrid join battle for Michu

Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are set to join race to sign Swansea City forward Michu, according to the Express.

West Ham United have made an offer of £6m to the South Wales club in an attempt to secure the services of the 28 year old, while Serie A side Napoli have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

The as yet one-time Spain international moved to the Liberty Stadium from Rayo Vallecano two years ago, and has so far scored twenty-eight goals in sixty-two appearances in all competitions though he spent much of last season on the side-lines.

Atleti are set for a busy summer in the transfer market, with Diego Costa strongly linked with a move away from the club, while fellow Spain striker David Villa has already signed a deal with MLS side New York City.

Diego Simeone’s side clinched the 2013/14 La Liga title on the final day of the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Barcelona, and they can be backed at 14/1 to retain the trophy next season.
