Spanish newspaper AS understands that Atletico Madrid are pondering a bid for Zenit centre-back Bruno Alves.
With starting defender Diego Godin set to be sold this summer, los Colchoneros are now searching for a new central defender.
Portuguese internationals Rolando and Bruno Alves are seen as the most likely candidates for the vacant position in the heart of defence.
However, Porto’s high asking price is likely to put off the La Liga side from making a move on Rolando, meaning that Bruno Alves is a more realistic target.
His €2.3 million yearly wage could prove to be a problem, but Atletico will probably agree to it if they manage to save some money on the transfer fee.
That is where the player’s agent Jorge Mendes steps in, given that he is a close friend of Atletico Madrid chiefs, having already helped los Colchoners sign several of his clients.
Los Colchoneros hope Mendes can persuade Zenit chiefs to sell the experienced defender on the cheap, as that is the only way how the Portuguese could arrive to Vicente Calderon.
