Spanish media outlet AS has learned that Atletico Madrid are hot on the trail of Lyon striker Mariano Diaz.
Los Colchoneros could be forced to cash in on Antoine Griezmann at the end of the season and they see the former Real Madrid starlet as a good long-term replacement.
AS claims that Diaz has emerged as Atletico’s top target after impressing los Colchoneros scouts in recent months.
After struggling for playing time at Santiago Bernabeu, the 24-year-old was sold to Lyon last summer, and he went on to score 16 goals in 33 competitive appearances.
Diaz revealed back in October that he didn’t know whether there was a buy-back clause in his contract allowing Real Madrid to re-sign him, and a return to Madrid may very well be on the cards for the highly rated forward.
