Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have all but agreed a deal to sign Lautaro Martinez from Racing Club, according to the player’s official representative.
The talented forward is believed to have a €9 million release clause in his deal and los Colchoneros appear to have matched it.
The deal was confirmed by Martinez’s agent Rolando Zarate.
“There is a 99 percent chance that the deal will be done,” Zarate told Fox Sports Argentina.
“Lautaro asked us expressly for the transfer to be nailed down. He likes the idea of Atletico Madrid and they have agreed to it.
“He wants to remain for another season because he wants to play the Copa Libertadores with Racing.”
Martinez will remain at Racing Club for another year, not only to gain some more first team experience, but also due to the fact that Atletico are banned from signing new players until 1st January 2018.
The 20-year-old was in fine form last season, bagging 9 goals in 23 league outings, while also representing Argentina at Under-20 South American Championship and Under-20 World Cup.
