La Liga heavyweights Atletico Madrid have unsuccessfully attempted to sign former Sampdoria defender Milan Skriniar.
Italian media outlet TuttoSport can reveal that the Rojiblancos made an approach for the talented 22-year-old Slovakia international despite their ongoing transfer ban.
The Spanish side found their transfer activities suspended due to unauthorised registration of underage players and were hit with a ban that lasts until January 2018.
Atletico Madrid have, however, managed to work around the rule for Sevilla star Vitolo, who will play for Las Palmas until January when he is expected to join Rojiblancos.
As for the reported approach for Milan Skriniar, Atletico Madrid are said to have lodged a €10 million offer which was ultimately rejected by Sampdoria as insufficient.
Ultimately, the Serie A side ended up selling the prized defensive asset to Inter Milan pocketing cool €23 million for a player they paid less than a million for in January 2016.
