Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro have moved to confirm reports linking them with a summer move for Inter striker Diego Forlan.
The player’s father yesterday revealed that his son was followed by a number of Brazilian clubs and Atletico Mineiro are the first club to confirm their interest in the Uruguayan.
The club’s president Alexandre Kalil claims that Inter have already agreed to sell the highly rated forward.
“The information has brought great harm to the negotiations,” Kalil told Bastidores, a program on Radio Italia.
“Inter have to release the player, president Massimo Moratti has already promised he will let Forlan leave.”
Kalil admits Atletico Mineiro are interested in signing Forlan, but he knows they face a stiff competition from other Brazilian sides.
“We are in the running, but I am not hundred percent sure we will succeed.”
Forlan’s father explained that his son is unhappy at being played out of position and confirmed that he was likely to leave the Neroazzurri at the end of the season.
The Uruguayan has had little impact since arriving to Giuseppe Meazza from Atletico Madrid, having scored just 2 league goals in 18 appearances.
