Atletico Madrid seem to have moved to pole position to sign Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, reports Het Laatste Nieuws.
Los Colchoneros have already contacted the player’s representatives with a view of signing the player on a six-month loan.
De Bruyne is eager to leave Chelsea in January in an attempt to keep his place in Belgium squad ahead of the 2014 World Cup, but he has yet to decide whether to accept an offer from Madrid.
Namely, with Koke and Arda Turan occupying the two positions in attacking midfield, the Belgian is not convinced he would be able to nail down a regular starting berth at Vicente Calderon.
A number of German Bundesliga sides are also thought to be keen, with the player having impressed while on loan at Werder Bremen last season.
Meanwhile, Chelsea sit four points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal, with the Blues 10/3 for the league title.
