Atletico Madrid have rejected a second bid from Arsenal for the services of Thomas Partey, as reported by The Guardian. The La Liga club insist that the only way the Ghana international would be leaving them this summer is if his release clause of €50 million is met.
The 27-year-old midfield powerhouse has been of interest to the Gunners for several months now, and it is believed that the north London club sent an offer of €25 million plus a player for Atletico to consider two weeks ago. The offer was rejected, and Arsenal have now returned to propose a deal in which they would pay the same amount and send Matteo Guendouzi to Madrid. However, it seems the Rojiblancos aren’t interested in that either.
Atletico head coach Diego Simeone wants Partey to stay put and for that reason, the club will do everything in their power to keep him. It means that any potential suitor, including Arsenal, would have to trigger the release clause and take the matter out of Atletico’s hands to stand a chance of signing the player.
