French media outlet L’Equipe is reporting that Atletico Madrid are on the verge of signing Argentine striker Luciano Vietto from Villarreal.
The same source has suggested that los Colchoneros have agreed to pay €22 million for the highly rated youngster, with the 21-year-old signing a five-year deal worth €1 million per campaign.
At the same time, Brazilian forward Leo Baptistao will move to Villarreal on a season-long loan as part of the deal taking Vietto to Vicente Calderon.
The Argentine striker only joined the Yellow Submarine last summer from Racing Club de Avellaneda, but he largely impressed in his maiden La Liga campaign.
Vietto bagged 12 league goals, while scoring another 8 in 10 Europa League fixtures, quickly catching the eye of Europe’s top clubs.
The forward’s meteoric rise looks set to continue as he is set to be reunited with Diego Simeone, the coach who gave him a chance to play first team football at Racing Club.
