Liverpool will face Atletico in Madrid tonight (Tuesday) in the third round of the Champions League group stages.
Following their encounter in the 2019-20 round of 16, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said he couldn’t understand why Diego Simeone, his Atletico counterpart, set up his team the way he did (defensively) with the quality of the players at his disposal. With the two teams set to do battle again, his words from back then have found their way to the spotlight again.
Speaking at his press conference ahead of this match, Klopp elaborated on his words, saying that he personally doesn’t like that style but pointing out that the things Atletico have achieved under Simeone (two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey trophy, two Europa League trophies, two Champions League finals) speak volumes about the quality of the work the Argentinian is doing there.
