Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola is reporting that Atletico Madrid have stepped up their efforts to sign FC Porto star Jackson Martinez.
Los Colchoneros decided to come forward with an official proposal after selling Mario Mandzukic to Juventus and they are reportedly set to match the €35 million release clause in the striker’s contract.
Even though he was close to joining AC Milan just a week ago, the Colombian is reportedly ready to move to Spanish La Liga, with Atletico clearly moving to the front of the queue.
Following three very successful seasons at Estadio do Dragao, Martinez has made it clear he is now prepared to leave for greener pastures.
The 28-year-old, who is currently representing Colombia at the 2015 Copa America finals in Chile, has been in excellent form ever since he joined FC Porto from Chiapas in 2012, scoring impressive 67 goals in 90 league appearances.
