Quique Flores has been confirmed as the new coach of Atletico Madrid until the end of the season.
The former Benfica and Valencia boss will replace Abel Resino, who was sacked following the club’s dismal start to the campaign.
“Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Quique Flores to become the new Rojiblanco coach until the end of this season,” read a statement on club website www.clubatleticodemadrid.com.
“The coach will be officially unveiled next Monday, 26 October, at 1030 hours in the VIP Lounge at the Vicente Calderon.”
Flores, 44, spent last season in charge of Benfica after being dismissed by Valencia in October 2007. He guided the Lisbon outfit to a third-place finish in the Portuguese Liga.
The Rojiblancos have claimed just one win in 10 Primera Division matches and Wednesday’s 4-0 drubbing at Chelsea left the Spanish club with little chance of progressing to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
