Handed a golden opportunity to extend on what is becoming a glittering purple patch, Augsburg will welcome relegation scrappers Fortuna Dusseldorf to the WWK Arena on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, putting in yet another rampant display and putting four past European contenders Hoffenheim on the road over the weekend, few in the Bundesliga would have expected Augsburg’s stellar resurge. Despite their tricky start to the new campaign, Martin Schmidt’s men have begun skyrocketing up the standings and the mood in their camp remains the highest it has been in recent memory. Winning four of their last five domestic appearances and enjoying an unbeaten run that stems back to the 3rd of November, Augsburg have also and quite remarkably bagged a quartet of strikes in three of their last five matches across all competitions.

As for the visitors, hit with a 3-0 hammering against title contenders RB Leipzig at the Merkur Spiel-Arena over the weekend, Fortuna Dusseldorf have free-fallen into the drop zone and are seen to be one of the favorites for relegation this season. On top of being blown away on home soil last time out, the Reds will undoubtedly still be feeling the effects of their 5-0 hammering against Borussia Dortmund earlier in the month. With Head Coach Friedhelm Funkel watching his side fail to win any of their last five Bundesliga matches on the bounce, Tuesday’s guests are also yet to record a single victory on the road since opening the 2019/2020 campaign.
