Andreas Ottl believes that Augsburg are capable of matching Bayern Munich when the two teams meet in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
The 27-year-old graduated from Bayern’s academy and played 92 times for the first team before leaving the club to join Hertha last year.
Ottl transferred to Augsburg following Hertha’s relegation, and is looking forward to the Bavarian derby.
“Everything is sorted out: The big Bayern, who play for titles every season, against small challengers that are trying to establish themselves in the Bundesliga,” he said.
“We can see it every weekend that the underdog can bring down the favourite. If Bayern do not reach 100 percent and we are on top, we have a chance.
“If we can make Bayern tumble, we will be happy, we need every point. Maybe they will underestimate us a little bit.
“It’s impressive how they perform this year. But they need to bring consistency after this brilliant first half of the season. I don’t see them collapsing but they will become Bundesliga champions.”
