August 18th: Sunday’s Premier League Double – 4/1 Special, Betting Tips & Predictions

With the Premier League officially making its return this weekend, defending champions Manchester City will steal centre stage on Sunday afternoon.

Watching the Sky Blues travel to Stamford Bridge when they meet Chelsea for what should be a heavyweight showdown from west London, we have a pair of eye-catching battles on the cards.

For those of you looking to stick on a Sunday flutter, we have found a pair of the most intriguing Premier League betting tips.

14:00 Brentford vs Crystal Palace

While Crystal Palace might have only appointed Oliver Glasner back in February, the Eagles embarked on a sensational rise under the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss. Signing off the 2023/24 campaign with a stunning performance at Selhurst Park as they stormed their way to a 5-0 romp at home against Champions League outfit Aston Villa, Sunday’s hosts won all of their final three top-flight appearances by an aggregate score of 12-1. Gaining a string of plaudits from across England’s elite and eventually storming their way to a top-half finish, Palace find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. In fact, on a purple patch that was highlighted by an action-packed 5-2 victory against West Ham on April 21st, Glasner’s side collected 19 points from their final seven Premier League showdowns. Receiving a reputation for their clinical performances in the final third, the Eagles will be confident of laying down an earlier marker when they travel across the capital this weekend.

Spending large spells of last season looking over their shoulder at what could have been a looming relegation scrap, Brentford are desperate to find some crucial stability this time around. However, with some billing Thomas Frank’s side as a potential relegation contender this time around, Sunday’s hosts could muster just a trio of wins from any of their final 15 consecutive Premier League appearances. Signing off their pre-season preparations with a remarkable 4-4 stalemate against Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, Brentford know the importance of finding some much-needed defensive resolve. Failing to find a single clean sheet from any of their five summer friendlies, Frank’s side could have a real challenge on their hands here. Likewise, showing some extended struggles on home soil, Brentford also recorded just a single Premier League victory in west London since the end of January. It should also be noted, when the Bees last met Palace back on December 30th, they slumped to a 3-1 drumming at Selhurst Park.

16:30 Chelsea vs Manchester City

Shattering even more domestic records last season as they became the first club in English history to claim four consecutive Premier League titles, Manchester City only further underlined their status as one of Europe’s ultimate poster boys. Embarking on what was another sensational run prior to the summer break as they won all of their final nine Premier League appearances, Pep Guardiola’s men already find themselves pencilled in as a leading contender this time around. Lifting the Community Shield last weekend as they secured a nail-biting penalties victory against bitter local rivals Manchester United, the former Barcelona boss will be hoping to make a heavyweight statement here. Likewise, landing an action-packed 4-2 win when they met Chelsea for a pre-season battle over in the United States on August 3rd, the Sky Blues will be seeking a repeat performance when they return to the capital on Sunday afternoon.

While Chelsea might have dragged themselves to a European return last season, their dramatic late flurry was not enough to save Mauricio Pochettino’s his job at Stamford Bridge. Watching the former Tottenham boss leave west London after just a year in charge, the Blues are getting a new era underway following the appointment of Enzo Maresca over the summer. However, failing to find any kind of stability during their summer preparations and recording just a single victory from any of their six pre-season appearances, Sunday’s hosts will be more than aware that they face a real challenge this weekend. Hit with that 4-2 loss when they met Man City over in Ohio earlier in the month, Chelsea hold a nightmare record against the defending champions. In fact, Maresca’s new squad have failed to win any of their previous 10 meetings across all competitions – a run that stems all the way back to their Champions League final success back in May 2021.
