On the flip side, while Bournemouth might have also opened their Premier League adventure with a 1-1 stalemate at home against West Ham, the Cherries will be more than aware that they face a huge challenge on Saturday afternoon. Last seen putting in another rugged display as they landed a 1-0 victory away at Huddersfield, Maresca’s side are rightfully seen as a standout pick on Saturday afternoon. On the flip side, while Cardiff might have just about clung to their Championship status last season, the Blues have struggled to find any kind of stability since opening the 2023/24 campaign. Last seen putting in a nightmare performance on home soil as they slumped to a worrying 2-1 loss at the hands of QPR, the Dragons will be bracing themselves for a stern examination this weekend. Signing off last season with a 3-0 drumming away at Burnley, it is hard to see anything other than a home victory at the King Power here.

Although Chesterfield might have suffered play-off heartbreak last season as they missed out on the chance to book a lucrative League Two return, Saturday’s hosts certainly aren’t showing any signs of a hangover. With their rampant flurry underlined by an action-packed 4-2 victory award at AFC Fylde, Cook’s men sit at the top of the fifth-tier standings and they will be hoping to lay down another marker this weekend. Notching a staggering 10 goals on their three-match winning run, Chesterfield should be relishing Oldham’s arrival here. Making an immediate return to losing ways in midweek as they suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of Halifax, Saturday’s hosts are firmly battling it out at the foot of the National League table. Tipped as a standout relegation pick this season and dealing with some public financial issues behind the scenes at Boundary Park, David Unsworth’s side faces a tough challenge here.
