The Chinese Super League suspended Australian import Joel Griffiths for seven matches Tuesday after the striker made an obscene gesture to the crowd during a recent match with his Beijing Guoan side.
The league’s disciplinary committee also fined Griffiths 50,000 yuan (7,350 dollars) for making the gesture after a 93rd minute goal by Beijing gave his side a 2-2 tie with league leaders Henan Jianye on Saturday, the league said on its website.
With three matches to play, Henan currently leads the league with 42 points while Beijing is in a three-way tie for second place with 41 points and a game in hand.
The 30-year-old Griffiths’ suspension will go into next season if he continues playing with the club, the league said.
