Australian national team squad member Mile Jedinak has signed an undisclosed transfer to Turkey's Genclerbirligi for two and a half seasons, his Central Coast Mariners club said Thursday.
Midfielder Jedinak, 24, will join Socceroos teammates Bruce Djite and James Troisi at Gençlerbirligi, which is also the former club of Australian internationals Nick Carle and Josip Skoko.
The Mariners said Jedinak will complete the calendar year in Australia with his farewell A-League appearance against Perth Glory on Wednesday.
“This is the best example yet of a player coming to the Mariners, taking his opportunity in the A-League, using his domestic form to put his name forward for Socceroos selection and providing a platform to advance his career to the next level,” Mariners executive chairman Lyall Gorman said in a statement.
Jedinak is set to make his 50th competitive appearance for the Mariners against the Newcastle Jets on Boxing Day.
Capped three times by his country, Jedinak has scored six goals in 13 starts this season for the Mariners, most of which have been long-range free kicks.
